The Alarm Clocks of Agony – Not strictly agony

alarmclockblue.gifSome days after my second emergency operation I am awoken in the middle of the night by the elderly woman from the bed opposite trying to climb out of my window. Suddenly two nurses appear with urgency and gently start placating her. “I thought I heard someone knocking to come in” she explains. The nurse gently directs her back to bed “Nobody would be knocking on the window trying to get in here!” she rightfully explains. I recognize the other nurse from my first admission. I remember she was the one who I asked to stay with me until the painkiller kicked in on one of those very early scary dark nights after the first emergency operation. I mumbled to her whilst the morphine kicked in and she told me Southampton is really good for cheap drinks. We are reunited this time just as my neighbour is put back to bed.
